Communicate

Effective communication is required as students interact and collaborate with peers during the learning process. Opportunities to communicate by speaking, writing, drawing and modelling support students as they learn to share their strengths and to draw out the strengths of others. We learn to present new ideas and to respond to new ideas presented by our teammates.

Students prepare posters of their process which include information about the variables that they have researched a step by step plan, calculations and summarizing statements. The posters are used as educational resources for others.

Students explore classroom models as a way to share their thinking and to build connections between the context of a question and the mathematical concepts.

Snapshots, showing students at work, are included in our Learning Portfolios. Students match the photos to curricular outcomes and write a caption about their learning.

Students use journals to summarize our experiences. They include details about the math content as well as the activities and events of the day. We include opinions, recommendations for improvements and suggestions for our next adventure.

Research findings and calculated results are used to support an understanding of the world around us. Here, students are using results from a trip to the zoo to defend their opinion about the ethics of zoos.
